Grade 2 Math

Clear Grade 2 math lessons, worked examples, guided practice, tests, and printable resources for building strong skills in place value, addition, subtraction, measurement, time, money, data, equal groups, arrays, and geometry.

What Do Students Learn in Grade 2 Math?

Second grade expands the number system from two-digit numbers to hundreds and numbers through 1,000. Students strengthen addition and subtraction fluency, use place-value strategies with larger numbers, solve more complex word problems, and explain why their strategies work.

Students also measure with standard units, use number lines, tell time to five-minute intervals, work with U.S. money, represent and interpret data, explore even and odd numbers, build equal groups and rectangular arrays, and deepen their understanding of shapes and equal shares.

Standards note: MathLattice Grade 2 is organized around mathematics expectations that are widely shared across U.S. elementary curricula. The main sequence focuses on broadly applicable Grade 2 skills, while selected lessons at the end provide additional state-specific extensions in areas such as number range, fractions, geometry, time, measurement, and personal financial literacy.

How to Use MathLattice Grade 2

Students can follow the lessons in order or choose individual topics for review and extra practice. Parents and homeschool families can use the sequence as a structured learning path, while teachers and tutors can select lessons to reinforce specific skills.

Each major MathLattice lesson is designed to combine clear instruction, visual reasoning, worked examples, independent practice, a lesson test, and a complete answer key.

The U.S. and state extension lessons are intentionally separated from the broad core so families can use the main Grade 2 sequence without assuming that every state emphasizes exactly the same topics.

Need to Review Grade 1 First?

Grade 2 builds directly on Grade 1 number sense, addition and subtraction within 20, place value, measurement, time, data, geometry, and equal-share reasoning.

Use the complete Grade 1 learning hub when a foundation skill needs another explanation or additional practice.
